Books I want to write this year

I'd like it very much if you wrote my post today instead of me.

I started this list and can't finish it.

Books I want to write this year

A cross between...

Tuck Everlasting and ?

The Phantom Tollbooth and ?

A Little Princess and ?

A Wrinkle in Time and ?

OK, I really don't think that way about my writing projects, but sometimes, I try to pinpoint what it is about the books I love that I would like to emulate. Obviously, looking at that list tells me that I adore high concept with a touch of fantasy.

  1. How about cross-breeding?

A cross between Tuck Everlasting and The Phantom Tollbooth?

A cross between The Phantom Tollbooth and A Little Princess?

A cross between A Little Princess and A Wrinkle in Time?

Or a cross between A Wrinkle in Time and Tuck Everlasting?

(that's after a night staying up at writer camp so forgive me a little goofiness)

  2. Hi Sara, I found you through Jennifer's blog. Your book sounds fantastic, exactly the type of thing I haunt book stores for. I've read through your blog and I love your poetry.

  3. What fabulous books to emulate! I love them all, but A Little Princess is closest to my child heart.

  4. David, a little goofiness is always welcome. I'm still thinking about Wrinkles and Everlasting together. Heh.

Welcome, Eric. Haunt away, here and at bookstores. Glad to have you.

Jama, I'm just dying to re-read The Little Princess for some reason. And it's one of the few children's books where I actually liked the movie adaptation.

  5. The Little Princess and Harry Potter

A Wrinkle in Time and Mary Poppins (where did she come from and are there others like her someplace else?)

I substitute teach as well and find this really keeps me in tune with the wants and needs of teachers and children. During my breaks in the classroom you can find me in the corner on a rug reading anything from picture books to YA books. Believe it or not, I actually get paid for this!

  6. I'm with David - Cross some of those.
The Phantom Tollbooth + A Little Princess = Alice in Wonderland-ish!

  10. I love high fantasy with a touch of sci-fi, too, only I can't come up with any ideas to write in the genre. Maybe someday . . .
