Finders, Keepers

I found a title for my next book. No, I can't tell you what it is, because it's so awesome the world might stop spinning to gawk at the brilliance of it.

Okay, so my title is probably not a state secret or even that amazing, but it IS important to me. I'm one of those "title first" authors, and I've been working on this story without one, or more accurately, with a series of unsatisfactory ones.

It's amazing how finding a few right words can make your whole writing week.

P.S. I did Google it, and it's not taken. Nor will it be. I'm certain. Mwhahahahaha!

P.P.S. So what's your favorite novel title of all time?

  1. My favorite title of all times is: "Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About." The book is hysterical too.

  2. Oh, yes, that's definitely a "Pick Me Up and Read Me" kind of title. And a talk about/argue about later kind of idea. Maybe even an idea for a poem. Hmmm...I may have to do that one.

  3. I am partial to A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius. And I am a title first gal too, especially for picture books.

  4. That title makes me smile every time I hear it, Jacqui.

For some reason, I would think picture book titles would be even harder to come up with than novel titles.

  5. I'm totally title-first and... is it wrong that my favorite titles are for the books I haven't written yet?

  6. I like 'em all. Just make cracking that cover worth it and you've got me.

BTW: my daughter is now a fan of your work. So, the pressure's on. lol.

The last author she wanted to read more of was Kate DiCamillo. Thanks for keeping her reading. You're a super-hero incognito.

  7. Not wrong a bit, David. As long as you write 'em.

Amy, thank you. Keeping young readers reading is my life's work. Doesn't have to be my words, as long as they find ones they love and savor and get lost in. She'll be tracking down books for her children one day!
