And yet, as writers we must say yes to our work. This poem reminds me that the choices are hard in revision, as author Tanita Davis blogged about so vividly: "like pulling teeth, abdominal surgery, a bikini wax and a colonoscopy all at once."
But then, dear melodrama-loving, short-tempered writer self---Honey!!!--- you must love what you choose.
God Says Yes To Me
by Kaylin Haught
I asked God if it was okay to be melodramatic
and she said yes
I asked her if it was okay to be short
and she said it sure is
I asked her if I could wear nail polish
or not wear nail polish
and she said honey
the rest is here
Thanks for this. Grades are due and I have two presentations to give next week and my WIP is feeling inadequate and is not even done yet, which is early to be feeling inadequate. And so this YES YES YES was just what I needed to hear today. I hadn't come across this poem before and am so glad you shared it.
