Poetry Quote of the Day: Leonardo da Vinci

Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen. ~Leonardo da Vinci

This post is part of my Poetry Quote a Day series for National Poetry Month.

  1. Oops. Should've had this one up yesterday, for da Vinci's birthday. Sorry, Leo. :)

  2. I love this one, but to some extent I disagree with Leonardo. I DO see poetry when I read it, particularly when the poet has conjured up an image I can't let go of.

  3. I get that, Tricia. Wish Leonardo could show up and debate with you.

  4. I particularly love the first half of that, as someone who is constantly showing art anymore at the ol' blawg. I get that. I really do.

  5. I agree -- I can imagine poetry as well, but I do feel his point -- sometimes that gouache is just... poetry in paint.
